COOKING DEMOS and SHUCKY'S DAY
Several cooking demonstrations happen on the two days of the OysterFest.
This year Wellfleet’s brand new community center, Preservation Hall on Main Street will be the location for learning how to cook with clams and oysters. Local and celebrity guest chefs will participate and show off signature dishes. Information on chefs, recipes and times will be posted in the weeks leading up to the ‘Fest. The demos are open to all, first come first served.
Shucky’s Day is a unique local experience organized in two parts. First, beautiful Wellfleet Bay is the backdrop where participants meet one of Wellfleet's shellfishermen and walk together out on his or her grant. Once there, you will learn all about aquaculture and try your hand at oyster harvesting, bringing 6 oysters to take back to the shore.

Next, you will visit a local restaurant where the chef will conduct a shucking demonstration and you will be given an oyster opening glove and knife. Using your new tools, you can experiment with your shucking prowess to open your oysters.
The chef will also prepare wine pairings to sip while enjoying Wellfleet's finest. Nothing left to do but slurp away! The shucking gloves and oyster knife are yours to keep.
Mud boots or old sneakers are recommended for walking on the tidal flats.
These excursions are planned around low tide and vary from year to year so stay tuned for definitive schedule and reservation information in September.
